Hello.
I am a technology consultant, writer, essayist, curator, husband, and father living in Saint Paul, MN.
What I do.
I create and curate a mixture of media, on a variety of topics that fascinate me, and deliver it in ways that are topical and rational.
It should also be noted that I am a big fan and shameless abuser of the ellipsis, parenthetic asides, and the long (yet, not run-on) sentence…
What’s here?
I write about a lot of things here but I focus on productivity, technology, analog tools, and even a little bit about my personal life. Basically, if it is something that interests me I post about it. I invite you to stay a while and take a look around. New folks may want to start with the “popular” category which highlights some of the most active posts.
My posting schedule (or lack thereof).
I post entries here according to the following criteria and schedule – Only when I think I have something of real and original value to add to the greater internet conversation. My personal promise to you, the reader, is that I will not fill your eyes, head, or RSS feed with anything that I consider to be repetitive, noisy or otherwise less than useful.
I write a few other places too.
I am known as the Curator of Minimal Mac, a weblog focussed on exploring the question of “enough” when it comes to computing with a focus on the Macintosh platform and Apple, Inc. in general. I often catalog cool things I come across that don’t quite fit elsewhere on The Random Post. I “ghost write” a blog for my daughter, Beatrix, at Duchess Beatrix. I also contribute at A Better Freelancer, the name of which should be somewhat self explanatory. In addition, I helped to found and moderate work.life.creativity – a forum focused on productive pursuits and creative living.
Regarding the design of the site.
The site design is original and built from the ground up using inspiration derived from many sources. There is no template you can download to use for your own site. The “look and feel” of my site is part of an overall personal branding. I think that in our ever more connected and public world, developing a “personal brand” is all the more important and this website reflects that idea.
This most current version of the site features a one post per page design. Navigation to to the previous and next posts is directly below each post. To find other posts, click on the archive link at the bottom of each page.
Do you intend to “borrow” my design?
Please shoot me an email to let me know you intend to do so. I would prefer that people came up with their own ideas but, if you still want copy my design, please give me attribution. It would also be nice if you shot me an e-mail with a link to your site. I am kind of collecting links to all of the sites I have influenced. I would be a liar if I did not say I was flattered a bit by it.
My blanket statement of affiliate linking (because even a few cents matters).
This blog uses affiliate programs for monetization, which means when you click on links to various sites that I recommend in my posts and make a purchase, this might result in a commission that is credited to this site (Amazon for instance, and possibly others). I am by no means getting rich on this and it is solely to help supplement, in a very small way, my addiction to books and other sundry goods. That said, I only recommend things I myself use and stand behind them as such.
